Community-led research is undergoing rapid expansion, with academia, civil society organisations and the public sector increasingly embracing more participatory ways of working.
The Young Foundation regularly trains and employs peer researchers; people who live in and represent the communities in which we are working. These researchers are able to work deeply to generate meaningful, new insights and their role is to work in partnership with our professional and academic researchers. In recognition of the value of this kind of distributed but highly localised capacity, The Institute for Community Studies sees the value in building a national network of trained and accredited peer researchers; and the necessary mechanisms and training to engage and work with them.
